January 2008 Pullip Releases

The January 2008 Pullip releases have just been officially announced, yay! First up is the long-awaited My Melody Pullip, the second Pullip in the Sanrio set.

Pullip + Sanrio tie-in = insufferable cuteness… Even for those of us who don’t usually like Pullips, this one will be hard to resist! Fans of gothic lolita and Little Red Riding Hood inspired costume will also have a tough time with that one. I already smell Visa Cards melting…

One change to note from the pre-release photo is the eye color, which went from brown to yellow. Also, happily, it seems that this cutie will come with a matching My Melody bag.

Next up are the Dal and Taeyang from the h. Naoto set we covered we covered previously. Dal Hangry comes with doll Angry (come on, that’s hilarious) and scowling eyebrows. We have said this before when first setting eyes on a Dal, but their little mug with their down-turned mouths are simply wonderful and so unique in a world filled with smiley dolls. Those babies have a permanent chip on their shoulder and don’t mind showing it. Good for them, since repressed anger ruins your health, even when you’re made of plastic.

The h. Naoto Taeyang, Horizon (Anarchy! Cool! as the flier boasts) is a February release. He is, to date, the only Taeyang secure enough to wear a skirt, though it is over pants, but kudos for subverting the dominant paradigm. Also, note gawth eye makeup. I’m beside myself with excitement to see what his “feel like so” line will be! The two-tone faux-hawk can be restyled when the trends change among the goth crowd, I’m sure… In the meantime, it’s quaint/cute enough to steal the heart of any rebel Pullip girl !

So there you have it! Pre-orders for these three should open soon, though it doesn’t seem that they’re open as of the writing of this article. Until next time, stay tuned, Pullip fans.
